Truly worthy of the Game of The Year award, God of War was immensely successful in its soft reboot following the conclusion of the original trilogy. The use of Norse mythology and characters was beautifully executed while being driven by an outstanding narrative. What begins as a seemingly simple journey of Atreus and Kratos to the highest peak in all the realms, it soon turns into a journey of a lifetime. The presence of Atreus leads the game to show the emotional side of Kratos which was never seen before which also implies that our God of War has evolved from his stint with the Greek Gods and now is in more control of his anger which has long defined him.

Santa Monica Studio has done a great job at preserving the series as the one the fans fell in love with while providing an entirely new experience. The character design and development align with the narrative and do not stray far off from the original Norse mythology. The combat mechanics are an absolute blast to handle and the transitions between gameplay and cinematic are creatively smooth without any drop in frame rate or screen blackout.

Anti-aliasing in this multiple layer open world is critically acclaimed. The player is given ample time to test and master the new signature weapon while understanding its features and drawbacks. The side quests and item hunt spread throughout the maps has been designed keeping in mind the Leviathan axe. The game rewards gameplay with memorable cinematic which keeps you hooked to the game for long.

God of War is no doubt one of the best console games which showcases technical and artistic superiority. Even when the player is out of a campaign the game keeps you involved with mythology stories from either the protagonists or NPCs. The stories narrated by either the NPC or the protagonist provide insight and background which connect to the current events of the game.

If we were to pick a downside of this game it would be the fact that it does not let us play enough of it. The game rewards you with additional stories and event knowledge by fulfilling side quests which help better in understanding the realms of the Norse mythology. In the end the game is a must play for a beautiful experience no matter the genre of your gaming. We just hope Santa Monica does not take another 5 years to provide a sequel.
